Rad Drew – The Magic of SnapSeed

November 10, 2021 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Presentation Description:
I think for a potentially mixed audience of iPhone and Android users, the Magic of SnapSeed topic will be a good one that will be well received regardless of phone.

SnapSeed is one of the most powerful apps for processing images on mobile devices and it fits in the palm of your hand!
Photographer, Rad A. Drew, will share tips and tricks that you can use to edit and stylize your images using SnapSeed on your mobile phone.

What you’ll learn:

• You'll be introduced to the SnapSeed interface and the various tools for processing your images
• Rad's simple workflow for processing any image in SnapSeed
• How to use SnapSeed's hidden masking feature for eliminating noise in clouds and sky, and selectively sharpening parts of an image, such as the eyes in a portrait.
• How to use the masking feature to leave a splash of color in a B&W image.
• How to save your images to your camera roll, and in a form that will allow you to pick up editing where you left off.
• How to stylize your images with textures and filters for a vintage look.

Install SnapSeed. It’s free!

Install the free SnapSeed app on your iPhone or android phone prior to the presentation.

John Barclay – “Through the Lens of Love”

December 8, 2021 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

John Barclay will present via Zoom

John’s Bio
I always created images, but I was never “a photographer.” I told myself I wasn’t creative. I wasn’t artistic. My stick figures were failures. But I had this new camera and I wanted to learn how to use it. On the first night of my first photo workshop, I stared in awe at the images shared by the group. The dream of being a “good” photographer was born. I sought out great photographers like Dan Sniffin, Tony Sweet and Nancy Rotenberg and I emulated them, listened to them, and learned from them. But I became a photographer in my own right when Nancy forbade me to look through anyone else’s viewfinder for the entire duration of an epic trip to Africa. “Follow YOUR vision,” she said, “and make the pictures that only you can see.” Doubtful, but willing, I began looking for the images that spoke directly to me, that pulled my eye or aroused my imagination. I looked for connection, and found my photographer self.
I created my program “Dream • Believe • Create” to reflect my artistic journey. I began my journey with few skills, but aspired to be better. I watched and learned, gained a bit of confidence, and then began to see photography not only as a reflection of the world around me, but also as the representation of the reality inside me. My photographic journey freed me to create what was uniquely mine. Being genuinely aware of the beauty around me as I look through my lens feeds my soul and brings me great joy. I encourage the participants in my workshops to share that journey and discover the artist residing inside each of them.
Following that inner eye, I photograph whatever makes my heart sing. I have explored diverse subjects and continue to learn processing techniques that bring my vision to life. I am eager to share my journey with my tour members, to help them pay attention to what turns their heads, to help them feel more connected to the experience of making unique images that make their hearts, too, sing.

Topic: Through the Lens of Love

If you are like me, you've probably chased after images, even images you might have seen searching for inspiration on social media. You may have even created a checklist to be sure you got exactly what you planned for. You have likely going out with expectations only to be disappointed when the conditions were not right, or you did not find what you had hoped for.

Realizing that photography is a creative art form, i am constantly exploring new ways to connect with my subject rather than just photograph what I am drawn to. Love? Really? What does love have to do with it? That is what this presentation will disclose. How does the love of my subjects influence my photography ? It boils down to this -- I photograph what makes my heart sing!

In this presentation, I will share stories an day thoughts from a 20 year journey to where I now look through the lens of love. I hope you will join me.

“Still Life – Beyond fruit Bowls and Flowers” presented by Betsy Wilson

March 9, 2022 @ 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm

This presentation will begin at 6:30pm.

Betsy Wilson will explore the world of still life photography through her unique perspective. A combination of traditional still life subjects, nature's fascinating still subjects, and a few whimsical and unusual creations, Betsy's still lifes provide studies in composition and lighting. Unlike landscape or street photography, the photographer is in complete control of subject matter, composition, shape, color, depth of field, lighting and presentation. The true skill lies in the ability to take something mundane and everyday out of its normal habitat and transform it into something of beauty by using our skills as photographers.

Betsy began learning photography after retiring from a career as a newspaper publisher. Her husband Jim gave her his hand-me-down camera and a lot of encouragement, and she has never looked back. Her passion for photography includes a wide variety of types including macro, landscape and nature photography. In addition to being honored as Photographer of the Year Award at the Chester County Camera Club, she has received numerous recognitions for her artistic photography including a Silver Medal awarded at the Wilmington International Exhibition of Photography, and First Place Award in Photography at the Philadelphia Flower Show. “Making the Case for Black & White in Photography” presented by Mike Baker

June 8, 2022 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Topic: Making the Case for Black & White in Photography
We live in a world of color- it dominates much of the what we see on the internet, social media, publications etc. However, what is the impact on a scene or subject when presented in absence of color?
Mike Baker will share his perspective on Black and White (B&W) photography including tips on pre-visualization; that is, learning to form an image in your mind’s eye on how a scene will translates to B&W before clicking the shutter. This will help the photographer to hone in on subjects and compositional elements that translate well into black and white. Additionally, Mike will provide examples of subjects that lend itself well to Black and White.
In the end, you’ll discover that you’ll start to look at the world differently. You’ll become more aware of light – its quality and its direction. You’ll become a better photographer for it.
Bio:
Mike Baker is an award-winning and published fine art photographer based in the Chicagoland area. Two of his greatest passions in life are travel and photography. Traveling on family vacations as a youngster helped to develop Mike’s desire to see places outside of his home state of Maryland. Further travel through previous military and current work assignments further broadened his view of the world via experiencing other cultures. Mike has been very fortunate to have traveled throughout North America, Europe and Asia (China), including his most recent adventures to Cuba. Both travel and photography has made Mike better appreciate his own home and culture as well as the people and lands he’s visited. Artist Statement Photography is an art of observation. It offers a creative outlet that allows Mike to capture interesting subjects in an ordinary place, transforming it into something extraordinary. Over the course of his photographic journey, Mike has developed that inner eye, that 3rd Eye that provides perception beyond ordinary sight. His work is most notable in the area of architecture, city-scape, and long exposure monochrome photography. Mike takes time to study his subjects, searching for patterns, shapes, light and shadow, and develops the image from this standpoint. Offering a surreal quality, Mike's images offer visions that often remain observed with suggested interpretations open to one's imagination.
